Scan at your own pace

Tap Scan in the bottom bar, hold a flat page inside the frame, and wait for automatic capture or tap the shutter. After each page, choose Scan another page, Retake, or Save document. Keep page edges visible and fingers outside the crop. For books, hold each page as flat as practical. Clean reduces uneven shadows; Original preserves the original appearance.

Add or fix pages

Open a saved document to add pages later, swipe through pages, rotate, crop, change filters, or restore an original page. You can scan or import up to 40 pages into one document. Imported PDFs become page images; interactive and vector content is not preserved.

Free documents and the lifetime upgrade

Your first 10 saved documents are free, with scanning, text recognition, editing, and PDF export included. Clearly marked sample documents do not count. Each new saved document counts once; deleting it does not restore the allowance. Adding pages to an existing personal document does not use another slot. Saving your own pages into a sample turns it into a personal document and uses one slot.

After the free allowance, the optional Paper Capture Pro lifetime upgrade unlocks unlimited documents. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. The planned US price is $9.99; Apple's purchase sheet shows the actual price in your currency. Saved documents remain available to view, edit, search, and export without upgrading. The 40-page limit per document applies to both versions.

Restore a purchase

Use the same Apple Account that bought the upgrade, then open Settings and tap Restore purchases. Pending purchases unlock after Apple confirms approval. If the App Store cannot be reached, try again when connected. Previously verified purchases can remain available offline. Apple manages billing and refunds through Report a Problem.

Camera access

Enable camera permission for Paper Capture in iOS Settings. You can also import selected images from Photos or PDF/image files from Files. Scanning requires a supported physical iPhone or iPad camera.

Backups and recovery

Recently Deleted holds deleted documents until you restore or permanently delete them. Paper Capture does not have its own cloud sync service. Your device backup may include the library, depending on your settings. Export important PDFs before uninstalling. Restoring Pro restores the upgrade, not your documents.

Text recognition

Recognition works best with clear printed text. Handwriting, formulas, glare, and curved pages can produce mistakes. Review important details against the saved image. You can retry recognition from the Text view.
